Melvin
The village of Melvin is located in the extreme western part of Richland township. It came into existence after the Cincinnati & Muskingum Valley railroad came through the township in 1883. Jacob Baker and Albert Haines opened the first store. It is essentially a shipping point for farm and stone quarry products. Originally, the largest industry in the town was the Melvin Tile and Brick Company which was incorporated in 1909. The Melvin brick and tile plant was destroyed by fire in August 1915.
